A railroad stop was the only marker of Bushland in 1898. The only rancher in the area, Joseph Glidden, gave the Frying Pan Ranch to his son-in-law, William Henry Bush. The railroad stop was called Bush Stop, but Bush’s wife thought it not suitable, so the settlement was renamed Bushland. Bushland never became the boom town the owners wanted to see, but up to 175 ranchers and farmers became the town’s mainstay. To this day, ranching and farming is a way of life.
